With A Harmonious Atmosphere

Design Brief

CONCEPT

Nowadays more people have pets and value them a lot.

People have a closer relationship with their pets. In this case, I think about the role of pets in our life. How to create a space for a person and his pet? How to present the concept of the interaction and the relationship between humans and pets by creating an object or space?

FORM DEVELOPMENT

When I was thinking of how to present an unstable but balance situation, the round shape crossed my mind. I tried to make an imageboard for swaying and balanced states.

I started with a circle side-view for my form develop-ment. I cut the circle into two parts and changed the proportion. After that, I changed several lines to make the whole shape coherent and also make it more suitable for sitting.

HUMAN FACTORS

When designing the chair, I research the information of the human body and the average dimension of chairs in general. During the design process, I used the 2D equal-ratio modeling on sketching the side-view to make sure the overall shape to be practical.

DIMENSION REVISION

PROCESS

The main support of the chair is made of galvanized iron which is made into a 10mm-radius bar. After joining each bar, the semi-finished good was painted and solidified. The main material for the cushion is velvet, I cut the cloth into long strips and put the cotton into them to make it softer. After finishing all the strips, I made them intersect with each other to build a stronger structure.
